Absolutely top notch!
If you've ever tried to make good hummus, it's not the easiest thing to do - until now. I'm thankful others had tried this before me, because I wasn't too worried since the ratings were so high. And they were absolutely right! OK, it's a powder in a box. How good can it be, right? Unbelievably good, I tell you! The flavor is NOT bland - you can taste the lemon!
I followed the directions and used a wisk, and I have to agree with another review - a touch more water makes it a nicer consistency. I also have to agree that you need a big bowl. One package of this is listed as 17 servings which seems about right for a small party of 6 or 8 people.
But the nice thing is you can easily mix up just the amount you want. I found that 1/3 cup of powder mix and 1/3 cup of water makes just the right size for a snack or as a side for lunch. And you're going to want to do that, because otherwise you'll just keep eating it! There are only 50 calories in a serving - but multiply by 17, and... well, so long, diet!
Everybody eats it with pita; I like it with flour tortillas; try it with pretzel rods or (my favorite) Snack Aisle's Pretzel Crisps. Truthfully, I like it with almost everything!
Very good after doctoring
This product is a bit bland and dry using instructions on box. Instead, add 1 1/4 cups H2O, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 3 tablespoons olive oil, and additional tablespoons of H2O (2 is my preferance) to get a good consistancy without getting runny.
Not bad hummus -- esp considering it comes from a box!
Wow. Very impressed. I love hummus, HATE making it, cause it takes so long. This... 30 seconds, and I had hummus ready! And it didn't taste too bad. Definitely a little bland which you could spice up on your own. Also pretty thick, so if you like it a little runnier, add more water or olive oil. Definitely a bargain. Store bought hummus is twice the price for half the amount!

Worthington Foods began as Special Foods in 1939, founded by psychiatrist Dr. George Harding. Dr. Harding was committed to providing health for the body and mind with an emphasis on nutrition and vegetarianism. The first products were the meat alternatives Proast (dark meat) and Numete (light meat). Special Foods grew throughout the years and saw a jump in production due to a shortage of meat during WWII. In 1945, Special Foods changed its name to Worthington.
In the decades to follow, Worthington Foods led the way to new vegetarian products. During the 1950s, Worthington increased in size due to acquisitions and new product developments, such as Soyamel and Veja-Link, the world's first vegetarian hot dog. Perfect Hurry Up Entree
Loma Linda Swiss Stake is a perfect hurry up entree that only needs reheating. It has a substantial meaty texture with a luscious gray. I like it best served with potatoes, peas, and a salad.

Brown in a bit of vege oil and top with sauteed mushrooms. Top with a bit of the gravy.
Too bland for my taste
This is the first Loma Linda or Worthington meat analog that was not thrilled with. I love most of their products and use them all the time, so I didn't hesitate to order a case of Swiss Stakes. For my taste, they are bland, blah and boring. As a stand-alone Swiss-style "steak", they just were pretty tasteless. The gravy is OK, but nothing to write home about. I'm using up the remaining cans by cutting the "stakes" up and putting them in Chinese dried noodle soups. I'm also thinking I can make them into burgers, as long as I load lots of ketchup and mustard on them.

Awesome chili
As I type this, my crockpot is filled with Vege-Burger, kidney beans, onion, garlic, celery, carrot and spices. It smells fantastic in here! The Vege-Burger makes an extremely hearty chili, and the texture is perfect. I also use V-B for tacos and burritos and "meat" sauce for my pasta. This is a wonderfully versatile product, with a pleasant taste that takes on the flavor of the spices you use. It has great "mouth feel". The only caution I would give is that you need to use oil in the pan if you are going to sautee it, because it will stick to the pan. But that's not an issue with crockpots, of course.

My first time eating this product. I make the most delicious soft and hard shell tacos with this product. I have to say this.........I LOVE IT!!!
My favorite vegetarian "meat" product
I grew up on this stuff. It's so quick and easy to use. I love that it's never greasy or funky smelling like real ground beef and there's never a danger of e-coli from not cooking it enough. It's also cruelty free. No animals had to die in the process! Yay!
I use it for chili, taco filling, and it's easy to make vegeburger patties just by adding bread crumbs, eggs and seasonings. It can even be formed into meatloaf or meatballs. I've made Hamburger Helper with it before which was pretty good. Its uses are endless. I'd love to try this in shepherd's pie. Loma Linda makes the best vegetarian "meat" products.
